Directed by Sam Mendes this romantic drama is set in a cinema in a seaside town in Britain in 1981! Olivia Coleman stars as Hilary who works at the cinema and begins a relationship with a young man, Stephen, who joins the staff. Hilary has bipolar disorder and Stephen encounters racism within the local community, and so things do not go smoothly. The film is set against the backdrop of films of the era, including the local premier of the film ‘Chariots of Fire.
Nominations include: Outstanding British Film at British Academy Film Awards; Best Cinematography at Academy Awards; Best Actress in a Motion Pictures at the Golden Globe Awards.
