Loosely based on true events, the film tells the story of a single father, John, who is bringing up his 3 year-old son, Michael, when he is told that he only has months to live. With the help of social services, John attempts to find a new perfect family to look after his son.

According to the director Umberto Pasolini “This is an opportunity to tell something about fatherhood, parenthood, the relationship between parents and children…. What is a family? What is a good family? Is there one way of being a good family?” And, of course, “Do you know your child well enough to choose to be able to choose the right family?”

It may be the saddest film of the year so far, but with Pasolini’s passion for human stories and Norton’s attention to character, ‘Nowhere Special’ ends up taking its audiences to an incredibly sensitive, warm and altogether heartfelt place. (Joel Kalkopf, Make the Switch Australia)
