This comedy drama is set in a an American Boarding School in the early 1970s. Some of the students have to stay at school over the Christmas holidays and are looked after by one of the teachers and the cafeteria manager. The film follows one of the students and the staff, all of whom are dealing with their own personal issues. “These three very different shipwrecked people form an unlikely Christmas family sharing comic misadventures during two very snowy weeks in New England. The Holdovers has had some success at the various Film Awards, most notably it was nominated for Best Picture Award at the Oscars. Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who plays the cafeteria manager, won the Golden Globe Award, the Oscar Award and the British Film Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Paul Giamatti, who plays the teacher in charge, was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
